Artist Statement – Christopher Steele
My artwork explores and extends the boundaries of photographic practice and perception, examining ways in which traditional media and contemporary digital media may interact .
The ability to write with light and record nature, now, inevitably, over laps with the traditional practices of painting, drawing and printmaking, to reveal new imagery.
Initially my artworks appear photographic, however they push the conventions of the medium, using a variety of surfaces and formats to present the artwork. Surfaces that once were reserved for conventions that belonged to drawing and painting can now be utilised by photo media.
